Review: DiRT2

A couple of days ago i saw that DiRT 2 was released in the wild. As a true rally fan and a heavily Dirt 1 addict i had to get it. If you’ve been following my twitter feed you might have noticed that ive been bitching a bunch about this game. For those who havnt, heres the deal.

First of can we talk about how amazing Dirt 1 was? Holy baby jesus that was an amazing game. The graphics was amazing! The look and feel of the interface was just to die for. All i wanted was to create that interface in flash and have a website that looked like that. Also let it be known that the game is 3 years old now and still has replay value. Such a great game! A couple of new racing types was introduced but it was still overall a great rally simulator.

Dirt 2 is another story. I would properly match it up with what happened with the great Tony Hawk series. Some tacky graphic artist got his hands on Dirt 2 and pooped shiny colors and doodles all over it. At first glance this looks like a TH game and not a rally game. Please bring back the old interface designer! It was so good!

Another TH effect is all crap you can put in your cars front view. Is that really necessary?! I mean, i just want to be able to see the road and drive through the beautiful environments without hitting every last thing because i have a hulu doll in the front view and small shoes in the rare view.

And whats up with all the different types of races? Rally, Rallycross(which is the same as rally, but with a giant bumper on the back and no one is talking to you), Gate crashers, Buggy races, Hummer races… Come on! Dont put crappy race types in a rally game when all i want is to drive a F’ing rally car with a guy telling me what to do! LIKE THE REAL THING!

BUT! If you can set all those things aside, this is a really amazing racing game. I hate all the special races but the rally is sooo good that it makes up for it. The landscapes are so beautiful and the races are exciting and fun. I dont thing i can find a thing wrong with this part of the game.

Well, you still have to unlock the easy levels which isnt difficult at all, before you can race with the pro’s!
